Peter Ho Kok Wai
ICAEW, MIA, MICPA

Experienced Non Executive Director with a long demonstrated history of working in the audit industry. Strong accounting technical professional, skilled in Governance, Risk and Internal Controls, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Strategic Planning, Accounting and People Management.

After many years as an Independent non-executive Director in various PLCs chairing Audit and Risk Committees, a new interesting area of focus has emerged. Sustainability. Interpreting and ensuring compliance with ever changing, ever more demanding disclosure requirements, be it from regulators or more often, from customers and stakeholders; has posed challenges to most of our companies.

But for those who understand the real future of ESG, it’s much more fundamental. Companies must learn to embrace and incorporate all the various aspects of ESG into every part of risk assessments and therefore Corporate decision making. An interesting journey and one that has just begun. Don’t be slow though, its moving fast!

What is Sustainability?

group-people-puzzle

It’s more than just a buzz word or a talk of the world. It is a call to action! However, before we act on it, we need to be able to define what is sustainability. So, what is sustainability? According to the 1987 Brundtland Report, sustainable development is “… development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” In simple terms, we need to ensure that we are not over-using resources that are available to us now, to the point where there are none left for the future!

With the array of new regulations, standards and everything else that is evolving together in this vast space of sustainability, as a company you should be focusing on your Economic, Environmental, Social and Governance (“EESG”) matters that are material to your company. There is no one size fits all solution for sustainability.

Let us help you on your journey in uncovering what are the material sustainability issues that your company may face.
